Descripción
Sumario:Language gives meaning to the world and idiom categorizes it. This symbolic action expressed through words produces concepts, puts order into reality. On the context of the information systems, written language used on the presentation of documents, is used to produce many layers of meaning. We propose, therefore, to present a specific process of information representation – description – that consists in an ensemble of procedures which aims to identify documents. Considering that systems of information can have different purposes – archival, museologic, bibliographical – description is studied trough this last one. The purpose is to explore the concept of description of documents in Cataloguing, in Bibliography and Catalografia, considering that these areas purpose the necessary fundaments to the challenges of the activity of producing the many contemporary bibliographic repertories, and also the fact that they constitute the genesis of the descriptive process. The research is exploratory and its method is bibliographical. We conclude saying that the discussion between the three areas is relevant, for it is not possible anymore to offer practical or academical answers predominantly around norms or technology.
