Sumario:The extension project “Cine Freud, Cultura e Arte” presented in 2016 the documentary “The Salt of the Earth”, codirected by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado. The movie portrays Sebastião Salgado's trajectory, a brazilian photographer, whose fundamental mark of his work is “the gaze”. By means of the effects caused by the film-documentary and the photographer's work, resorted Jacques Lacan's conceptions on “the gaze”, “picture function” and “stain function” to direct the study of this study. The investigation allowed us to notice that Sebastião Salgado subverts a certain common place in photography, that matches with a position in which the “I”-subject is that one who “sees” and “dominates” the object looked, instituting a particular gaze that decentralizes the “I”-subject: in this photograph, we are seen at our point of failure. The experience report also presents a fewnotions andconsiderations about gazing and social photography.
