Sumario:For more than a century, diplomatic relations between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay on the triple frontier are marked by intensity. After territorial and border conflicts in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the use of water resources gained the center of a great debate that surpassed the regional level and reached the international level. The construction of the Itaipu hydroelectric dam, completed in 1984, inaugurated a new phase in relations in the triple border. After more than twenty years around the plant, other topics appeared on the agenda of relations between the three countries, especially in the last decades. Among them, it is important to highlight tourism and its role in transforming the region into an economic pole of Brazil and South America. In stimulating the economy, tourism has made trade involved with the Ciudad del Este free zone in the second attraction of region, which in turn encouraged the multiplication of illegal and illegal activities. This new picture worries the authorities of the three countries and indicates the emergence of new geopolitical dimensions in the region.
