Descrição
Resumo:This article discusses the characteristics of null impersonals in Brazilian Portuguese, i.e. impersonal sentences in which a non-specific event participant is null. The discussion shows that these null elements are heimian indefinites, that is, expressions that do not have quantificational force on their own and rely on operators. This allows us to set apart the elements under study from 3rd person referential null subjects, in addition to presenting independent evidence for a particular analysis for 3rd person referential null subjects.
