Descripción
Sumario:The text aims to serve as a paratext to the translation of the chapter “Navigazione sull’Amazzone” [Navigation on the Amazon], that is part of the work Dalle Antille, alle Gujane e alla Amazzonia [From the Antilles to the Guianas and the Amazon] by the Italian admiral Gregorio Ronca (1859-1911) and published in Rome in 1908 in a 220 pages edition. The work was written because of Ronca’s trip to the region, which began in February 1904. First, European interests in the Amazon region and the reasons that encouraged the trip are presented; then, elements of the author’s life and work are shown, as well as the themes, structure and characteristics of the work that constitutes the corpus of this study. Finally, some comments are presented about the translation process of this chapter.
