Sumario:The intensification of human activities on the environment has a significant impact on the Earth’s climate. This phenomenon is reflected in an increase in global temperatures and changes in the annual rainfall pattern. Long periods without rain represent a serious socio-environmental challenge, especially for the semi-arid Northeast of Brazil, increasing the region’s water vulnerability. Understanding water vulnerability is essential for sustainable water management, considering its importance for society and ecosystems. The aim of this study is to analyze rainfall variability and the water balance in the Identity Territory of Southwest Bahia (TISB), considering its importance for society and ecosystems. The results of this study indicate that the rainy season occurs from October to April, however, rainfall is not evenly distributed. The temperature characteristics of the TISB are typical of Brazil’s semi-arid region, with seasonal variations. The TISB experiences high evapotranspiration rates throughout the year. The results of this study point to a general downward trend in average annual rainfall over the period analyzed (32 years). The water deficit is common to all the municipalities that make up the TISB and occurs throughout the year, directly impacting the social and environmental dimensions and the TISB’s share of the state’s GDP.
