Descripción
Sumario:The perception of Latin America in Italy can also be measured through the quality and quantity of relevant geographical names (choronyms, poleonyms, microtoponyms, nesonyms, oronyms etc.) and anthroponyms, chrematonyms and deonymi words present in the lexicon and lexicalized phrases. The present study analyzes the names of Latin American nations, cities, geographical entities, surnames, proper names, nicknames, trademark names, deonomic words items that are present in Italian regions and cities, and where possible, the motivations of these elections are indicated. Such choices are linked to the great migration of Italians from the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries to South America, to interest in historical issues – in particular independence struggles – from Latin American countries, to curiosity about typical plants, animals, tissues, etc., to some cultural and consumption stereotypes such as coffee in Brazil, meat and tango in Argentina, the legendary riches of Peru.
