Sumario:Obesity is increasing worldwide and consequently increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Several alternatives are used to help weight loss, for example, the consumption of some types of teas. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between green tea consumption with body weight of adult women. We evaluated 65 women (18-50 years old) who completed a food frequency questionnaire based on the tea consumption of the last 6 months. It was performed Spearman correlation to determine the association of green tea consumption and body weight. We observed a positive correlation between green tea consumption and BMI (r = 0.27, p<0.05). The mainly result of this study was a positive association of the consumption of green tea with the body weight of women. The result was contrary to our initial hypothesis that we believed to find a protector effect of the consumption of green tea for obesity. The result can be justified, possibly, by the intention of this population in obtaining body lost by the consumption of green tea. We conclude that the individuals with higher weight presents higher green tea intake.
