For the return periods 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 and 100 - year precipitation determination was used Gumbel’s and log-normal statistical distributions, using the Rain Relationship Duration Method for 20 rainfall stations. For Gumbel’s distribution data adherence verification, was used the Kolmogorov-Smirnov adhesion tests and Chi-Square adhesion, with, 5% significance level. The general IDF equation coefficients a, b, c and d were obtained through non-linear regression and the adjustment quality was measured by both determination coefficient and standard error. Different intense rainfall curves were obtained with the methodology applied, for the region, each one shows a good parameters adjustment, important tool for extreme precipitations estimating.A relação intensidade, duração e frequência é muito importante para o desenvolvimento de projetos de obras hidráulicas principalmente em regiões onde não há dados atualizados desse tipo de estudo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar as curvas intensidade-duração-frequência para a Encosta Superior do Nordeste do Rio Grande do Sul, a fim de proporcionar ferramentas para dimensionamento de estruturas hidráulicas e estudos hidrológicos na região. Foi utilizada a distribuição estatística de Gumbel e log-normal para a determinação das precipitações para os períodos de retorno de 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 e 100 anos, utilizando o Método das Relações de Durações de chuva para 20 postos pluviométricos. Para a verificação da aderência dos dados observados na distribuição de Gumbel, foram realizados os testes de aderência de Kolmogorov-Smirnov e Qui-Quadrado, ao nível de significância de 5%. Os coeficientes a, b, c e d da equação geral IDF foram obtidos através de regressão não linear e a qualidade do ajuste medida pelo coeficiente de determinação e erro padrão da estimativa.
