| Summary: | The amount of digital information has increased exponentially, and its digital preservation is imperative, at the risk of irreparable losses to individuals, societies and organizations. Names such as 'electronic resource coordinator', 'digital service manager', 'data curator' and others are appearing in the literature, and in job advertisements, to designate the information professional who is und ertaking the task of digital preservation. Why is the term 'professional information' no longer enough to characterize who has been developing this task? Maybe a new profession is taking shape. Therefore, based on a review of the literature, this article investigates how a profession emerges, and what competences this "new" information professional must have to carry out the task of preserving and curing digital content. It concludes showing that these procedures presuppose a group of professionals, with mu ltiple formations and competencies, and who will act in different areas and stages in the process of preservation and curation of digital data |
