In the mentioned work, May claims that anxiety is a threat to being. Anxiety being a threat to being, it can arise as a threat to some value, a threat of physical death, and psychological threat. Finally, following the author's thinking, we are being able to conclude that anxiety is always present in our experiences of self-realization and creativity.O objetivo do presente trabalho é refletir sobre o significado da ansiedade em uma perspectiva existencial-humanista. Para tanto, partiremos da reflexão de Rollo May (1909-1994) acerca da “super simplificação” efetuada pela psicologia atual e as técnicas desenvolvidas para lidar com a complexidade da experiência humana. Sendo assim, a obra O significado da ansiedade (1950) do psicólogo norte-americano será o mote para pensar a ansiedade na clínica existencial-humanista. Nessa obra, May afirma que a ansiedade é uma ameaça ao ser. Sendo a ansiedade uma ameaça ao ser, ela pode tanto surgir como ameaça a algum valor, ameaça de morte física e ameaça psicológica.
