| Sumario: | In this article, Michaud discusses the thought of Joseph Beuys, which is associated with the romantic concepts of myth, ritual and the unshakeable belief in art as an instrument of Freedom, regeneration of self-consciousness, spiritual values and social restructuring. It marks the artist’s indignation at the post-war crisis of European civilization and the loss of German cultural unity and hegemony with the establishment of Nazism. According to Beuys, the artists must be involved in the reconstruction of the mythical homeland, which will be free of social and ideological conflicts, through political engagement, through the power of ideas and through actions strictly connected with German and European life and history. |
