Resumo:Hunger affects millions of people in several continents, mainly, in peripheral countries of the imperialist economy. Under capitalism, hunger assumed a perennial and tragic character, since food became a commodity and, later, a mere negotiable asset. The article serves the purpose of pondering on the expansion of contemporary capitalism in agriculture, giving a special emphasis to contemporary capitalism, marked by the increasing control of monopolies and financial capital over food. A common assumption has been that the dynamics of globalized accumulation resulted in the association of capitals from diverse origins that seek rapid capital appreciation. The association of capitals is represented by business and investment funds corporations, that perform on a global scale, through territorialization and monopolization of territory, subordinating food and land to a speculative and wasteful logic, whose outcome has been the global rising of the hungry.
