| Sumario: | The ergogenic resources consumption went through a sudden grown, either due to esthetic reasons, or aiming a better physical performance. The present study aimed to investigate the consumption of nutritional ergogenics by students of a gym in the city of Volta Redonda-RJ during the pandemic, the reason for using these products and the association between the expected objectives and the ergogenics used. This is a cross-sectional study, carried out during the months of March and April 2021, using a questionnaire. 121 exercise practitioners participated in the research, with a prevalence of women (50.4%) who practice physical exercise for aesthetic purposes. Most use some ergogenic (n=70) or have already used (n=12) to obtain a response to physical exercise, with whey protein, BCAA and caffeine being the most reported, and the main source of indication was the professional nutritionist. About the perception of ergogenic effect with the use of substances, 50% reported perception of the desired effect. There was a positive association between supplement consumption and concern with food (OR: 7.53; p=0.006), hypertrophy (OR: 4.26; p = 0.039) and performance (OR: 5.34; p=0.021). It’s concluded that the prevalence of use of ergogenics in the sample is high, and even with the majority opting for professional prescription, it’s still common to indicate non-qualified people and internet consultations as an influence for their use. |
