Descripción
Sumario:This work aims to analyze interregional (long distance), intraregional (medium distance) and intrastate (short distance) migrations to and from the Metropolitan Region of Feira de Santana (RMFS), established in 2011. Studies on Bahia and the Metropolitan Region of Salvador topic exist, but little or nothing is known about RMFS. To achieve the objectives, microdata from the 2010 Demographic Census were the main source of information. From them, migration matrices were used to calculate the volume of migration (entrances and exits) in the three flows, making it possible to obtain other indicators, such as gross migration, the migration balance, the Net Migration Rate (NMR) and the Migration Efficiency Index (MEI). The main results indicate that between 2005/2010, the short-distance flow stands out, as it presents greater gross migration (entry and exit volume), as well as a greater positive migration balance in the RMFS, and it was also possible to identify that the main destination of emigrants from RMFS is the state capital, Salvador. In turn, medium-distance movements are the least practiced, but show a positive migration balance, while inter-regional flow has a negative balance, showing that the RMFS still typifies as an area of population loss in long-distance migration. Regarding the municipalities that make up the RMFS, Feira de Santana is the most attractive.
