Sumario:It is proposed to discuss the characteristics of Recife mortgage credit in the face of the slowdown in the pace of growth of the economy of Pernambuco. For this purpose, 5,612 mortgages contracts were used, collected at the Office of the 1st Registry of the Real Estate of the Recife. It will be shown that the credit was mostly offered from native savings, which supported the urban expansion and the city's public services network, maintained the functioning of commerce and financed industries.
