| Sumario: | This dissertation undertakes a pragmalinguistic analysis of Lk 8,26-39, the pericope narrating the healing of the demon-possessed man in the region of Gerasa. Recognizing that the Lukan account goes beyond a mere description of a miraculous event, the research seeks to understand how the linguistic and communicative resources employed in the text effect transformations within the narrative, social, and missionary spheres. The central objective is to investigate how the pragmatics of discourse in Lk 8,26-39, as a communicative unit, enables both its implied and contemporary readers to perceive the effective action of God on behalf of humanity, His desire for total reintegration, and the universal expansion of His salvific effects. For this purpose, the thesis adopts as its theoretical framework contributions from the Pragmatics of Language (Morris, Austin, Searle, Bremond, Grice), Discourse Analysis (Van Dijk, Adam, Koch), and recent studies in Biblical Pragmatics (Lentzen-Deis, Mora Paz, Grilli, Dillmann, Guidi, Obara). The methodology combines a linguistic analysis of the narrative structure with pragmatic categories—speech acts, presuppositions, implicatures, and interactional dynamics—in order to highlight the perlocutionary effects of the text and its role in Luke’s theological communication. The findings demonstrate that the account of Lk 8, 26-39 presents a communicative progression that moves from the recognition of Jesus’ power by the unclean spirits to the missionary proclamation of the former demoniac, thereby constituting a paradigm of proclamation within a non-Jewish context. The analysis shows that the text effects a dual transformation: existential liberation, social reintegration, and missionary commissioning. It is concluded that the pragmatics of the Lukan narrative not only reinforces Jesus’ authority over evil but also delineates the communicative and missionary dimensions of Christian faith.
