| Sumario: | Introduction: tigecycline is the first glycylcycline approved for clinical use. It has indication for the treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections caused sensitive gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and anaerobes. Tigecycline induces pancreatitis has recently been reported as an adverse reaction. Case report: this is a case of acute pancreatitis probably induced by tigecycline in a 72 year-old woman admitted due to diabetic foot. The patient presented with symptoms and laboratory results compatible with pancreatitis three days after the start of treatment with the agent, being diagnosed with biliary pancreatitis induced by tigecycline. Discussion: drug-induced acute pancreatitis has an incidence of 0.1-2% but there is still little literature on pancreatitis induced by tigecycline. In this patient, the diagnosis was strengthened by causality analysis with the Naranjo algorithm indicating probable relationship with tigecycline (score = 7). According to the literature, pancreatitis induced by tigecycline has quick start and the symptoms gradually disappear after cessation of treatment, as detected in our case. Conclusion: acute pancreatitis induced by tigecycline is still considered a rare phenomenon, requiring further investigation, notification and publication. |
