| Resumo: | The present article analyses the context and the conditions of the production of the very first historiographical records on the Mucker conflict leader, Jacobina Mentz Maurer. We focused the analysis of the book “The Muckers”, produced in the late nineteenth century by the German Jesuit, Father Ambrose Schupp, who arrived in Brazil in 1874, when the conflict was almost ended. Our purpose was to understand how and why the Mucker's leader was the target of Shupp's interpretations as well as his influence on the process of building and disseminating a given version of Jacobina. |
