| Resumo: | Pain is one of the main postoperative complications, bringing about a series of grievances to the surgical patient. This research aimed at verifying the influence of the intensity of pain on the scores of the Aldrete-Kroulik index in patients submitted to elective surgeries, in the immediate postoperative, in the postanesthetic recovery room. It is a non-experimental, analytical, quantitative study. Data were collected in the post-anesthetic recovery room, using an instrument which contemplates sociodemographic and clinical variables, related to the anesthetic-surgical procedure and to analgesia. The participants were patients from any gender who were submitted to elective surgical procedures during the period of data collection and were 18 years old, adding up to a total of 241 (n) patients. The qualitative variables were analyzed per descriptive analysis, and the quantitative ones, through descriptive measures of centrality and dispersion. In order to link the predictor variables to the Aldrete-Kroulik index and to the presence of pain, Student’s T Test, Pearson’s R test, Spearman’s correlation and Logistic Regression were used. The significance level considered for this research was of p<0.05. It was noted that most patients were male (140 - 58.1%), with an age average of 48.50 years old, white (195 – 80.9%), systemic arterial hypertension was their main disease (48 – 19.9%), and were classified as ASA II (144 – 59.8%). The most frequent surgical specialty was orthopedics (54 – 22.4%), surgeries of low impact (178 – 73.9%), with spinal anesthesia (122 – 50.6%). Intraoperative complications occurred with 12 patients (5.0%), hypotension being the most frequent among them (5 – 2.07%). The anesthesia lasted for an average of 89.88 minutes, and the patients remained in the recovery room an average of 152.5 minutes. Regarding analgesia, 232 patients (96.3%) received it in the operation room. The association between simple and non-steroid anti-inflammatory analgesics was the most common analgesia (94 – 40.4%). Regarding postoperativeanalgesia, the most common prescription used a fixed timeline (83 – 34.5%), associating simple and non-steroid anti-inflammatory analgesics with opioid analgesics (89 - 36.9%). It was noted that the average Aldrete-Kroulik index scores increased positively during the patients’ permanence in the recovery unit, as did the intensity of their pain. Physiological changes in the recovery room were very frequent during the five moments analyzed, hypothermia being the most common alteration. A bivariate analysis of predictor variables over the Aldrete-Kroulik index score have shown statistical differences depending on the type of anesthesia, gender, pain evolution, and time spent in the postanesthesia recovery room. However, when the numbers were adjusted to account for potentially confounding variables, multiple linear regression has shown that only the type of anesthesia, the evolution of the pain, and the time spent in the recovery room are statistically meaningful. A bivariate analysis of the predictor variables regarding the intensity of pain did not reveal statistically meaningful results for any of the variables. A bivariate analysis of the intensity of pain relative to the occurrence of physiological changes has also failed to show any significant statistics. |
