Description
Summary:This article describes River Plate Spanish vowels. We describe vowels in terms of their acoustic and articulatory properties, and provide different vowel plots. The theoretical problem of identifying the distinctive features that characterize vowels was also exemplified. Finally, we give special emphasis into two issues we consider crucial for the phonetic and phonological description as well as explanation of vowels. The problem of vowel inventory- resulting from the theoretical assumptions underlying our work, and the problem of the distinction between monophthongs and diphthongs, as recent experimental data question the formant stability of Spanish monophthongs, providing evidence that vowels show spectral dynamic properties.
