| Sumario: | The main objective of this article is to understand the resistance strategies that enslaved and freed people used in the fight against slavery, the actions in the search for their rights, freedom and autonomy. The locus of the research is located in the municipality of Alegrete, on the western border of Rio Grande do Sul. Through a qualitative approach and the intersection of different historical sources, various forms of resistance of the captives to the slave system during the 19th century are analyzed. The documents used are letters of manumission registered in a notary, criminal processes, post mortem inventories, records of baptisms, marriages and deaths, list of classification of slaves to be freed by the Emancipation Fund, reports from the provincial presidency and periodicals.. |
