Resumo:This paper makes a first contribution by developing a methodology capable of introducing a specific tourism sector into input-output tables (IOTs) using data from an original IOT and a tourism satellite account. A new IOT is built for the economy of Ceará, Brazil, by applying the proposed methodology. An additional contribution of the paper is what we call “the pull index”. This index can synthesize the indices of forward and backward linkages and their dispersions in a single result. It also can be seen as an alternative index to point out key-sectors for the economy. The results have shown that tourism in Ceará has the fifth highest pull index, being the seventh sector in terms of employment and income multipliers.
