To do so, we will begin by examining the author’s diagnosis regarding contemporary challenges in addressing the climate emergency. From there, we will demonstrate Jonas's position in the debate surrounding catastrophism and collapsology, showing that the latter leads to immobilism, while the former – if used methodologically – should lead to engagement in addressing the situation and its overcoming. In these terms, Jonas's methodological catastrophism is grounded in an appeal to responsibility, understood as a reorientation of human actions to ensure the conditions for authentic life in the future.
