Resumo:We would like to study the sustainability of the thesis asserting aradical independence between, on one side, the scientificexcellence of somebody and, on the other, his (or her) bad ethical attitude. We argue that although the possibility of coexistence ofscientific excellence with bad ethics can be conceived in singularcases, it is severely harmful for the healthy development of Scienceas an institution. In fact, this development requires high ethicaland cognitive standards. The consequences of this coexistence foreducation, peace, environment, democracy and the solidarity amongpeoples are catastrophic.
