| Sumario: | During the perinatal period, women may suffer from mental disorders, among which depression stands out. However, the use of some antidepressant medications during pregnancy and the postpartum period requires caution due to the risk of teratogenicity. In this regard, the scientific community in the health area can contribute to the development of tools that can assist health professionals in the treatment of depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period, improving the health conditions and quality of life of the mother and baby, an issue that corroborates the Sustainable Development Goals in the Health and Well-being axis. Objectives: to develop and validate a reference manual for health professionals on the safe use of antidepressants during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Methodology: This is a methodological study in which a didactic product entitled “manual for the use of antidepressants during pregnancy and the postpartum period” was developed. The development of this manual was based on published scientific evidence on the subject, including: scientific basis, with the distribution of conceptual bases, the importance of knowledge about the benefits and risks of using antidepressants during pregnancy and the postpartum period; the main antidepressants that can be indicated for the treatment of depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The Content Validity Index was used to validate the protocol-type product, and the selection of the 16 experts, psychiatrists, was done using the “snowball” technique. The analysis of the results and statistics was performed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). In the first round of presentation of the manual, the 21 items on the validation scale obtained a value higher than 0.8, by the experts. The suggestions were aimed at improving the color, flowchart titles, clear writing, list of acronyms, approach to alternative therapies and suggestions for bibliographic sources. After that, the manual was restructured and completed, with the participants' suggestions. Final considerations: The manual met the objectives of this research, being a didactic product that can significantly support health professionals working in the maternal and child area, offering comprehensive care and improving the quality of life of mothers diagnosed with depression. This technical product aims to fill gaps in clinical practice and offer clear guidelines for the safe prescription of antidepressants, with potential for replicability in different health contexts. Product and applicability: This manual can be adapted and implemented in different health services, both public and private, due to its practical and scientifically based format. From the use of this manual, an impact is expected in the medium and long term, improving the quality of treatment for pregnant and postpartum women with psychiatric disorders, in addition to providing greater safety in prescription and minimizing the risks associated with inadequate pharmacological treatment. in the treatment of depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period. |
