Descrição
Resumo:Ribeiro’s study (1993) brings a new analysis perspective related to the archaic Portuguese by considering the possibility of a V2 order in romance languages, mainly in old periods. Following this proposal, this work intends to describe the relative clause order in Portuguese language data from 17th and 18th centuries to identify the verb position and the syntactic elements around it. Other important studies were considered to support the description of this order, as Galves and Paixão de Sousa (2017) and Antonelli (2020). The analyzed data confirm a V1 tendency in relative clauses, even in constructions in which the relative pronoun is not the subject. Besides, it was observed, in this context, a change in the preferred order related to the subject: preverbal on 17th and postverbal on 18th.
