| Sumario: | The African-American feminist writer bell hooks (1952-2021) has always defended the construction of an engaged and liberating education. The aim of this critical essay is to reflect on the possible contributions of bell hooks to the field of Educational Psychology. For this discussion we have retrieved from the scientific literature dilemmas faced on teachers’ education in Brazilian undergraduate programs. As a result, we suggest a debate in higher education that includes race/color, gender and origin as social markers. Such movement may guide the teachers through the participation in the formative process of their students. The conclusion is that the concept of transgression defended by hooks can be an important component, overcoming a scenario of apathy and complacency often present in contemporary education, towards a condition of more collaborative reflection. |
