| Sumario: | Brazilian federal public universities offer education, knowledge, and technology to society. This article compared the commodification of public higher education between Brazil, Chile, the United States of America, and Portugal, as well as examined the financial management of committed, settled, and paid expenses of own revenue collections arising from the provision of services between 2010 and 2020 of these institutions in Brazil. A quantitative approach was used. It was concluded that autonomy is a constitutional right of Brazilian universities and that there is an attempt to commodify federal public higher education. This article unveiled that, since 2016, discretionary treasury resources and equity funds from own sources have decreased, however, universities use their own sources and supporting foundations to supplement their resources. |
