| Resumo: | The debate represents a moment of unique value within the electoral disputes of the campaign considering that this is the main scenario for it (with ample coverage media) presenting its platforms as symbolic opposition to opponents at a pace of direct struggle. The aim of this work is to contribute to the study agenda of the effects of electoral debates seeking to assess whether the interest of Internet users by the discussions as an independent variable affects the volume of searches in Google by the candidates for the presidency. Our hypothesis is that perhaps the discussions have a consistent effect to stimulate the interest of Brazilian Internet users by the candidates for the presidency. The results corroborate this premise that there was a ratio of three of the four shifts analyzed in the elections of 2006 and 2010 as regards the interest in discussions and the searches conducted by the candidates on Google. |
