| Sumario: | The current dynamics of the various sectors of the economy cannot be known without taking into account the process of financialization. Although they are not recent, investment funds are increasingly gaining expression in the direct and indirect control of publicly traded companies, including the so-called educational groups. The objective of this work was to analyze the participation of these funds in the largest companies/educational groups listed on stock exchanges in the world and in Brazil. From the point of view of methodological procedures, the steps were: a) to identify all companies with a market price above US$ 50 million, in August 2019, classified in this sector on the Marketscreener portal, as well as the host country; b) classify those with the highest market price at the time of the consultation; c) identify the ten largest shareholders of the three largest companies in the world and in Brazil; d) identify the participation of the main investment funds; e) analyze the shareholding composition of said investment funds. It was concluded that the world's largest investment funds (BlackRock, The Vanguard Group, Morgan Stanley and The Fidelity) are present in the largest educational groups, and that these or other investment funds are also present in all these companies/educational groups, which are guided by the logic of cost reduction through the adoption of “educational technologies”. It appears, therefore, that education becomes just another sphere of action of these funds and banks that sometimes contribute to suppress, sometimes contribute to constitute new “educational groups”. Thus, education is placed in the process of financialization, assuming the logic of the current phase of capitalism, of non-competition, of monopolies, that is, of imperialism. |
