| Sumario: | The city of São Paulo is persistently shaped following the logics of the buildings, in detriment of the space between them; in other words, its urban interstices. In opposition, it is put forward a hypothesis that the city, when produced from interstitial infrastructures based on morphological, environmental, and social aspects, results in higher quality environments for the population. Thus, this article aims to present a research experience within a PhD design-driven study, focused on surveying and analyzing typical urban interstices in São Paulo and developing morphological, environmental, and social tools and parameters to guide urban planning and design centered on the spaces between buildings. The research method combines Fieldwork, Analytical Work, and Prospective Work, grounded in theoretical foundations. Finally, in contrast to current urban regulations and practices, the article presents alternative future speculations for territories under transformation in the city of São Paulo, exemplifying and legitimizing the infrastructural potential of its urban voids. |
