Descripción
Sumario:This article aims to present the uses of the jornal “A Imprensa Catholica” and the pastoral letters produced by Archbishop Dom Adauto de Miranda Henriques and used in the fight against Protestantism and Spiritism, as well as in the dissemination of the thought of the Catholic Church, on the norms of moral, social and religious behavior. In addition to the newspapers, the pastoral letters became important documents for the dissemination and expansion of the Catholic faith from the coast to the interior of Paraíba. Pastoral letters are sources of inestimable value, both for their liturgical nature and for the important place they occupied in Catholic ecclesiastical life and organization between the 19th and 20th centuries. Pastoral letters, along with the pulpit, the press, iconography and architecture, became the privileged spaces of communication between the Church and its faithful.
