Resumo:Since the beginning of his magisterium in 2013, Pope Francis has found himself surrounded by major and urgent issues, including the rise of armed conflicts worldwide, growing violence in urban centers, gender-based change agendas, challenging existential peripheries, and, especially, the poor. Recognizing the value of the person in all contexts of human life, the Pope has noted how these realities contradict dignity—a concept that has assumed centrality in his magisterium. Given this context, this research aims to investigate the concept of "human dignity" from Pope Francis's ethical-theological perspective, through an analysis of the main ethical-theological treatises that comprise his imagination. To construct Francis's concept of dignity, this study explores the biblical-theological tradition and the main exponents of modern thought, as well as the Second Vatican Council, especially the texts of Gaudium et Spes and Dignitatis Humanae. Thus, this dissertation highlights the Pope's conceptions of human dignity and his means of promoting it during his pontificate, especially in relation to the poor, contributing to the expansion of the notion of human dignity and providing ethical reflection for theological scholarship and contemporary challenges
