| Sumario: | Objective: Point out the relevance of internships in the area of pediatrics for university students in the health area and report on experiences in this sector. Method: This is an experience report, with a descriptive approach on the experience of five nursing students at the Federal University of Campina Grande, at the Júlio Bandeira University Hospital in the Child and Adolescent Health Care Unit sector, where the VII Vacation Course 2022, in the period of September 2022. Results: According to university students, participating in this extension is characterized as a unique experience, where the student leaves with a balance of practical knowledge of the day-to-day of a hospital unit, association of theory, professional experience, workload in the academic curriculum and opportunity to know new techniques, as well as practice the knowledge acquired in the classroom. In addition, the early inclusion of university students in the daily routine of the services favors meaningful learning, the construction of knowledge, in addition to developing skills and attitudes, with autonomy and responsibility. Final Considerations: During academic training, we end up not having the opportunity to spend more time in the sectors that we are most interested in, resulting in deficits in teaching and learning. The vacation course makes it possible for us to build a professional identity, as it is an enriching field of knowledge through which it brings the intern closer to the future profession he will practice, with the people and with the practices he will work with, in order to reduce the difficulties to be faced. |
