Sumario:Objective: to determine factors associated with neonatal deaths at a reference teaching hospital for high-risk pregnancies. Methods: this is a cross-sectional epidemiological research carried out in a university hospital in the south of Brazil. Data were obtained from interviews, analysis of prenatal card and electronic medical records of patients during the period from January 2017 to December 2018. To verify the association between the dichotomous variables, Odds Ratio (OR) measure was used. Results: of the 3156 pregnancies analyzed, most were white pregnant women, without formal occupation (“household”), married and/or in a stable relationship, with complete elementary education, aged 19 at age 34. In the studied period, there were 353 fetal deaths and the risk estimate for the occurrence of death was higher in single pregnant women, primigravidae (first pregnancy), with more than 37 weeks of gestation, who had less than 6 prenatal consultations, with high risk and who had any pregnancy complications. Final Considerations: the importance of adequate coverage of prenatal care was highlighted, allowing the identification and adequate management of high-risk pregnancies, and its implications for maternal and neonatal health.
