| Sumario: | The aim of this paper is discuss the places usually allocated to men in the context of violence against women. The methodology used was interviews with the professionals working in the Women's Police Station in Belém, Pará State, Brazil, as well as close observation of everyday life in space. As search results, we can say that the main point of this discussion revolves around a new naturalization: the “essence” of the violent man opens space for socialization in a sexist culture. But even considering these men more as “family men” than “criminals”, the prison is still the most appropriate referral. At most, it is added to some psychological imprisonment would act as a form of rehabilitation, an instrument of training and correction for these men considered “abnormal”. We concludethat, rather than imprison men perpetrators of violence or provide a "psychological treatment" to serve as an additional control technology, it would be interesting to provide a space for listening to men and women involved in violent relationships; a space in which to establish doubt in the gender conviction that produce situations of domestic violence. |
