| Summary: | This article aims to propose an analysis about the body and its understandings within the thought of Epicurus of Samos. To do so, the formative character of the nature of bodies will be addressed initially, observing the aspects of Epicurean physics. Next, the relation of necessity between bodies (atoms) and the void for the conformation of bodies, worlds and the whole will be presented. And finally, the reflection on the admissibility of the idea that conceives the body as a receptacle of reality. The present analysis has as main sources of research the texts of the Letter to Herodotus, as well as the close tradition of the texts of the poet Lucretius in De Rerum Natura. |
