Descripción
Sumario:Abstract - This study aimed to evaluate the perception of rural extension agents (REs) on the management of the farm and related variables, through a structured questionnaire applied to technicians of the Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Company of Santa Catarina (Epagri). The results show that there was no difference between the REs regarding the evaluationof the performance of the producer in the role of rural administrator, but the proportion of positive opinions was significantly higher among the older and/or with longer time in extension activity. In the majority view of the REs, farmers dedicate themselves more to the technical aspects than to the management of the production system, and advanced age and the lowlevel of schooling make it difficult to record information and accounting control of activities. The REs also point out that most farmers do not separate the expenses with the family and of the productive system, that farmers prefer to invest in farm rather than have greater cash liquidity, and that the timing of sale of production is defined by the need for financial resources. The results indicate the need for more effectve acton of the rural extension in the managerial area of the production units.
