Sumario:Agriculture needs several technologies to maintain itself, and among them the application of pesticides stands out, with herbicides being the most used. However, it is known that these products are very aggressive to the environment and human health, especially for producers who work under direct exposure. However, there are several plants that have shown a potential phytotoxic effect on other plants. As they have active secondary metabolites, they can act by inhibiting the growth of weeds as a result of the allelopathy exerted by their compounds. Thus, the present work aims to use plant bioassays with model plants and weeds to evaluate the phytotoxic, cytotoxic and genotoxic properties of essential oils from two species of the Piperaceae family, Piper arboreum and Piper macedoi. To carry out the tests, preliminary tests will be carried out at concentrations 3000, 1500, 750, 375, and 187.5 (ppm), using the model plants Lactuca sativa L., Sorghum bicolor and the weed Bidens pilosa L. With this study it is expected to find new compounds of natural origin that are efficient in the control of weeds.
