| Resumo: | The name of human accidents characterized as municipalities is not alien to social, historical and cultural issues of these political-administrative units and the study of their taxes end semantic motivations is justified, because when recognizing their taxes, one understands the plots of formation and sedentarization of human being. In this perspective, the objective is to present a description and linguistic and extralinguistic analysis of the inventory of the 54 designations of physical nature constituting a macrotoponymy of Alagoas. As for the theoretical-methodological assumptions, this is a bibliographic research, with a quali-quantitative approach, based on the theoretical principles of traditional Toponymy, especially Dick's categorization proposal (1990; 1992; 2006; 2007). After the analysis, 9 different taxes in the universe of taxonomies of physical nature, were identified related to the names of municipalities present in the studied corpus. Among them, the taxa of phytotoponyms and hydrotoponyms proved to be the most productive, with records of 18 occurrences for each category, out of a total of 54 macrotoponyms. Therefore, the valuation of flora and local hydrography by the subject-nominator was more emphatically evidenced as toponymic motivation, by choosing the names of plant species and rivers and lakes that stand out in the landscape region where the named municipality is located, materializing, in the toponymic lexicon, the denominative links between man, his language and his habitat. |
