Sumario:This study aimed to analyze the perception of recreational events by people who live or work in long-term care institutions for the elderly (LTCI). A recreational event was conducted in a long-term institution by physical education students. Nine institutionalized elderly and two LTCI professionals evaluated the leisure afternoon, which consisted of games, dances, and other recreational activities. Data were collected by questionnaire. The majority of the volunteers considered the performance of the students (77%), the activities (64%), and the event organization (55%) as very good. The event was considered important by everyone, the reasons being: it contributed to happiness and well-being (63%), increased leisure opportunities (45%), increased interaction (27%), and contributed to health (9%). We concluded that the leisure afternoon had good quality, and in addition, this study demonstrated the importance of leisure events for the institutionalized elderly.
