| Resumo: | Egidio Romano is the main defender of the medieval papal teocracismo, whereby the spiritual power is above the temporal. To defend this thesis, Giles uses many arguments drawn from Aristotle, Dionysius, Thomas Aquinas, and especially St. Augustine. For this article, we examine solely the egidianos arguments inspired by ideas of Augustine, intending to ascertain whether, considering a more thorough interpretation of the thought of hiponense, understanding Egidio Augustinian texts in De ecclesiastica potestate sustain themselves or were used incorrectly. |
