Sumario:In the present research, I address the topic of how taking part in Model United Nations (MUNs) simulations has an effect on youth citizen participation, focusing on the case of MUNers in Baja California (B.C.), Mexico and California (CA), USA. The topic is analyzed using the approaches of participatory democracy and democratic development, and from the results of the fieldwork conducted. I use a predominantly qualitative methodology, however I realize a methodological triangulation with quantitative data to achieve to more complete conclusions. As fieldwork, I conducted 18 semi-structured interviews. The main conclusion, supported by the fieldwork, is that MUNs foster youth citizen participation in the young interviewees. I also present other conclusions related to topics such as the relation of the approaches with the fieldwork results, as well as public policy recommendations and recommendations for future researches.
