| Resumo: | The Bico do Papagaio region, located in the Legal Amazon, is characterized by agrarian conflicts that have led to social movements advocating for land and territory. In this context, rural women have emerged as key figures in social struggles and mobilizations. This article investigates the importance of territoriality among rural women, with a focus on the babaçu coconut breakers in the Bico do Papagaio Microregion, using the conceptuais frameworks of sustainability, territorial development, and territoriality as theoretical lenses. Based on a qualitative approach and a case study, grounded in the premise that groups and individuals attribute meanings to their actions and historical constructions, this work reveals how rural women's leadership in defending their territory is intrinsically linked to sustainable territorial development. Through interviews with female leaders in Bico do Papagaio, we present the current challenges these women face in their political struggle and organization, as well as the objectives and perspectives they are developing to overcome these obstacles. |
