| Resumo: | This article discusses the praxis of translating – through a descriptive standpoint – and investigates how the repertoire, individual stylistics and aesthetic influences of the translator are revealed in the methodological choices of a translator in relation to the source text, considering the historical context in which he and readers of the time find themselves. To this end, the theoretical aid of Itamar Even-Zohar (2013), André Lefevere (2007), Lawrence Venuti (2002) and Gideon Toury (2012) is used, selecting excerpts of Oscar Wilde’s The Decay of Lying (1891) and translations to portuguese made by João do Rio (1911) and Oscar Mendes (1961). |
