| Sumario: | This work aimed to identify the level of geometric knowledge of students in a class of the 6th year of elementary school on triangles characterized by measures of the lengths of their sides (equilateral, scalene and isosceles). For this, Van Hiele's theory of the development of geometric thought was adopted. 26 students from a municipal public school, located in a city belonging to the Zona da Mata Norte of the State of Pernambuco participated in this investigation. The data collection instrument consisted of a test with four questions involving the levels of understanding 1 (visualization or recognition) and 2 (analysis) of Van Hiele's theory. The results indicated that the students had no difficulties in recognizing the triangles, adapting to the characteristics of level 1 (visualization or recognition). Regarding the identification of the properties of these figures, sometimes the students get them all right, sometimes partially and, in some cases, completely miss. According to level 2 (analysis), these students are progressing within the characteristics of that level, that is, improving their knowledge. |
