Sumario:Introduction: The intensity of strength training (ST) can be given on the basis on percentage of sufficient load to perform a specific number of repetitions maximal (RM) or in the performing of RM itself. However, many practitioners do not follow these guidelines, even with some time of experience in ST. Objective: Evaluate if different experience levels can be influence the perform of ST inside a specific number of RM. Method: Fourteen healthy subjects, ST practitioners, were divided in two groups: 1) Experienced (n=7, ≤ 36 months of experienced), and 2) Inexperienced (n=7, ≤ 12 months of experienced). Were measured: a) time of ST experienced; b) declared load (DL) to perform the planned 10RM (PRM), and c) number of RM performed (NRM). The number of RM performed in muscular failure moment (MFM) was considered the NRM. Results: Experienced group showed high total body mass (kg), high DL and low percentage of body fat. High experienced time showed strong correlation between high loads used, while for inexperienced group these variables (experienced time vs. load) do not showed correlation. Experienced group do not showed differences between NRM and MFM. However, the inexperienced group showed number of NRM significantly higher than number of PRM. Conclusion: Inexperienced individuals perform strength training with intensity lower than their actual target, while longer experiment times reduce this error.
