The fundamental issue in this research is what operations – rhetorical, imaginative, institutional – were necessary for the modern lyric to acquire a lyric of the Subject, more than a lyric of the Nothing (as it happened, before Dante, with Guilhem de Peitieu and would happen again with Mallarmé in the closing of the historical-poetical arch opened by Dante).Busca-se verificar, neste artigo, como Dante Alighieri cifrou, já no primeiro parágrafo da Vita Nova, com a figura de um livro transcrito fragmentariamente a partir do «livro da memória», questões e procedimentos definidores da singularidade da sua obra, mas também decisivos para a configuração futura da literatura moderna, sobretudo (mas não só) em sua vertente lírica.
