Descripción
Sumario:The article discusses the role of translation in the times of silent cinema, where the history of audiovisual translation runs, in parallel to the history of cinema and, later, of audiovisual media. In the early years of cinema began to incorporate written language along with iconic representation. It is then that the need arises to translate the written text to understand the film narrative in those countries where the language is not spoken or understood. The article discusses the rapid transition from silent to sound cinema: from some imaginative solutions, such as the so called multilingual or double versions, to the triumph of dubbing and subtitling as the two major modes of audiovisual transfer all over the world.
